ChatGPT, spreadsheets or an app: organizing your powerlifting

Momentum Coach ·

You can organize powerlifting with a spreadsheet, a training app or a conversational tool such as ChatGPT. Choose according to the task: understand an idea, apply progression rules or keep a consistent log. No format guarantees a sound program by itself.

Three different tasks

ToolPossible useWhat to check
ChatbotOrganize questions, explain concepts or review a draftWhether claims and proposals make sense in your context
SpreadsheetRepresent a block, log sessions and apply formulasWhether you understand the formulas and maintain the record
Training appKeep planning, logging and history on your phoneWhat you can edit, how changes work and what each tier includes

A spreadsheet can contain progression rules. An AI label does not establish that an app adapts appropriately. Ask which inputs it uses and which decision changes.

Using a chatbot thoughtfully

Requesting a program without describing your availability, experience and recent training leaves important questions unanswered. Review lift frequency, sets, effort and progression before accepting the output. Ask it to identify missing information instead of assuming it knows.

A manageable request is: “These three comparable sessions ended at RPE 7, 8 and 9 with the same weight. What should I review before changing the block?” The answer can organize your review; it does not establish the cause or observe your lifting. See our prompt guide.

When a spreadsheet is enough

If you know the plan, log sessions and understand progression, a sheet can meet your needs. Before switching, identify the difficulty: mobile logging, comparing weeks or keeping dates organized?

An app is useful when it solves that problem. A different interface is not a reason to abandon a system that works for you.

Test your next-session workflow

Choose a recent session and check that you can retain exercise, variation, weight, reps and RPE. Include a real deviation: an omitted set or reduced load. Then explain what you would do next time and why.

A tool that hides changes makes review harder. A tool that generates a new plan without keeping history leaves the logging problem to be solved elsewhere.

Where Momentum fits

Momentum combines blocks, sessions and history for self-coached powerlifters. Coachy provides AI assistance for understanding and considering adjustments. Its suggestions need review, like any proposal you add to your plan.

We do not promise that an app prevents injury or produces a bigger total than another tool. Start with our self-coached guide or compare training apps.

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT prepare a draft?

You can request one, but a complete text does not prove suitability. Review assumptions, loads, recovery and progression before using it.

Does an app remove the need to learn?

No. Understanding effort and progression helps you notice when a suggestion needs more context.

What if I need technical supervision?

Find a professional who can observe and follow your situation. A software comparison does not establish equivalence with that support.
